Loredana

Loredana is an Italian feminine name derived from Loredan, the surname of a prominent Venetian patrician family whose name in turn comes from Loreda, a place in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. The name gained widespread popularity largely through Pietro Trapassi's 1733 novel Loredana and later through the influential Venetian historical novel by the French writer George Sand published in 1833, which brought the name to broader European attention. It remains in use today primarily in Italy and Romania, where it was adopted enthusiastically during the twentieth century. The Romanian form is sometimes spelled Loredana without variation, and the name shares its topographic roots with the surname Loredan.
