Lucy is the English form of Lucia, derived from the Latin name Lux meaning light. It has been in use since the medieval period and was popularized in part by Saint Lucia of Syracuse, a third-century Christian martyr venerated across Europe. The name gained further literary fame through characters such as Lucy Westenra in Bram Stoker's Dracula and the Narnia chronicles of C. S. Lewis.
