Lukas

Lukas is the German, Scandinavian, Dutch, and Lithuanian form of Lucas, itself derived from the Latin name Lucas, which is generally understood as a Latinized form of the Greek Loukas, meaning man from Lucania, a region of southern Italy, though some scholars connect it to the Greek word leukos, meaning light or bright. The name gained widespread use throughout Christian Europe through the evangelist Luke, author of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. Closely related forms include Luca, Luka, Lucas, and the Czech and Slovak variant Lukáš.
