Maia

Maia is a name of ancient Greek origin, derived from the root maia, meaning mother or nurse, and also connected to a verb meaning to foster or to care for. In Greek mythology, Maia was one of the seven Pleiades, daughters of Atlas and Pleione, and was revered as the mother of Hermes by Zeus. The Romans identified her with an Italic goddess of growth and spring, lending her name to the month of May.
