Maia

Maia is a name of ancient Greek origin, derived from the root meaning "mother" or "great one," and is closely related to the Greek verb meaning to nurse or foster. In Greek mythology, Maia was the eldest and most beautiful of the Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione, and she became the mother of Hermes by Zeus. The name was also borne by an Italic goddess of spring and fertility in Roman tradition, whose name is the likely source of the month of May.
