Majda

Majda has two distinct origins. As a Slavic name used in Slovene and Croatian, it arose as a short form of Magdalena, itself derived from the Hebrew place name Magdala, meaning tower, which was borne by Mary Magdalene in the New Testament. As an Arabic name, it derives from the root m-j-d, conveying glory, honor, and nobility, and is closely related to the masculine name Majid and the feminine forms Majida and Mجداء. Both traditions share the name's sound while carrying entirely separate etymological histories.
