Mandy

Mandy originated as an English pet form of Amanda, a Latin name built from the gerundive of amare, meaning she who must be loved or worthy of love. It emerged as an independent given name during the twentieth century, particularly popular in Britain during the 1960s and 1970s. Amanda remains its principal source form, though Mandy occasionally also functions as a diminutive of Miranda.
