Martti

Martti is the Finnish form of Martin, derived from the Latin name Martinus, itself built on Martis, the genitive form of Mars, the Roman god of war, giving it the broad sense of "of Mars" or "belonging to Mars." The name spread widely across Europe through the veneration of Saint Martin of Tours, a fourth-century bishop celebrated for his charity. Martti has been a prominent given name in Finland, most notably borne by Martti Ahtisaari, the Finnish statesman and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
