Maryam

Maryam is the Arabic and Persian form of Miriam, derived from the Hebrew name whose precise root remains debated but is often connected to meanings such as "beloved," "rebellious," or possibly an Egyptian element meaning "beloved" combined with a divine name. In Islamic tradition, Maryam holds great significance as the mother of the prophet Isa (Jesus), and she is the only woman mentioned by name in the Quran, which devotes an entire chapter to her. The name is widely used across Arabic-speaking, Persian, Urdu-speaking, Indonesian, and Turkic communities. Closely related forms include Märyäm in Bashkir, Märyam in Tatar, Məryəm in Azerbaijani, and the broader Semitic cognates Miriam and Maria.
