Mikula

Mikula is a Czech form of Nicholas, ultimately derived from the ancient Greek name Nikolaos, composed of the elements nike, meaning victory, and laos, meaning people, giving the overall sense of victory of the people. The name entered Slavic languages through the spread of Christianity, carried by the popular fourth-century bishop Saint Nicholas of Myra, whose veneration became widespread across Europe. Mikula is a rare vernacular variant within Czech, sitting alongside the more common Mikuláš, which is the standard Czech and Slovak equivalent of Nicholas.
