Natan is a Hebrew name derived from the root natan, meaning to give, making it essentially a shortened form of Nathaniel or a stand-alone equivalent meaning he gave or God has given. It appears in the Hebrew Bible as the name of a prophet who rebuked King David over the matter of Bathsheba, giving the name strong biblical resonance.
