Nellie

Nellie is an English pet form of Helen or Eleanor, both of which trace back ultimately to the Greek Helene, whose root is debated but often associated with the Greek word for torch or with Selene, the moon goddess. The name gained wide use in the nineteenth century, carried notably by Australian soprano Nellie Melba, who took her stage name from her hometown of Melbourne, and by American journalist Nellie Bly, celebrated for her investigative courage.
