Olena

Olena is the Ukrainian form of Helen, ultimately derived from the ancient Greek name Helene, whose root is debated but most often connected to the Greek word for torch or light, or alternatively linked to Selene, the moon goddess. The name entered Ukrainian tradition through the Greek form via early Christian influence, carried by Saint Helena, mother of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great, who was venerated for her role in spreading Christianity.
