Olov

Olov is a Swedish form of the Old Norse name Áleifr, composed of the elements anu, meaning ancestor, and leifr, meaning heir or descendant, giving an overall sense of ancestral heir. The name was borne by several medieval Scandinavian kings, most notably Saint Olaf II of Norway, whose veneration helped spread the name widely across the Nordic countries. Olov remains in use in Sweden alongside the more common variant Olof, while related forms include the Norwegian Olav and the anglicized Olaf.
