Patti is an English given name that originated as a diminutive or pet form of Patricia, itself the feminine form of the Latin name Patricius, meaning of noble birth or belonging to the patrician class. The name gained independent use largely through the twentieth century, partly influenced by the Italian-American opera singer Adelina Patti, whose fame in the nineteenth century made the name widely recognizable. It is also associated with American singer and actress Patti LaBelle and punk icon Patti Smith, both of whom brought the name cultural prominence.
