Pip

Pip is an English pet form of Philip, which derives from the ancient Greek name Philippos, composed of the elements philos, meaning loving or fond, and hippos, meaning horse, giving the overall sense of lover of horses. The name gained widespread cultural recognition through Charles Dickens's 1861 novel Great Expectations, whose protagonist Philip Pirrip goes by Pip throughout the story.
