Rosália is a Latin-derived name built on the root rosa, meaning rose, and was closely associated in medieval Christian tradition with the rosalia, a Roman festival during which roses were strewn on tombs. The name gained particular devotion through Saint Rosalia, a twelfth-century Sicilian hermit venerated as the patron saint of Palermo, whose cult spread widely across Catholic Europe and Latin America. Rosalia and Rosalie are the principal Romance-language variants, while Rozália appears in Hungarian and Slovak traditions.
