Rosalia

Derived from the Latin word rosa, meaning rose, Rosalia originated as a Late Roman name and was also associated with the ancient Roman festival of rosalia, a ceremony in which garlands of roses were placed on tombs to honor the dead. The name gained Christian significance through Saint Rosalia, a 12th-century Sicilian hermit venerated as the patron saint of Palermo, whose cult spread the name widely across Catholic Europe. It remains in use today in its Spanish and Galician form Rosalía and the Portuguese Rosália, and it shares its floral Latin root with related names such as Rosalie and Rosalie.
