Rosalie is a French feminine name derived ultimately from the Latin rosa, meaning rose, the flowering plant that has long carried associations with beauty and love. It developed as an elaborated form of Rose, with the suffix giving it a musical, diminutive quality that became popular across French, German, and Dutch naming traditions.
