Rut

Rut is the Spanish, Scandinavian, Czech, and Slovak form of Ruth, derived from the Hebrew name רוּת (Rut), whose meaning is uncertain but is often associated with a Hebrew root meaning companion or friend. The name is most famously borne by the Moabite woman in the Hebrew Bible whose loyalty to her mother-in-law Naomi is celebrated in the Book of Ruth, one of the few biblical books named after a woman. The name appears as Rút in Czech and Slovak, and the more familiar anglicized form is Ruth.
