Samuel

Samuel is a Hebrew name, derived from the elements shema (to hear) combined with el (God), commonly interpreted as meaning heard by God or name of God. In the Hebrew Bible, Samuel was a revered prophet and judge who anointed the first kings of Israel, Saul and David, making the name widely venerated across Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions. Its long history of use across Europe and beyond has produced numerous variants, including Samuël in Dutch and Sámuel in Hungarian, as well as the shortened forms Sam and Sammy.
