Sanda

Sanda has two distinct origins. As a European name, it functions as a Romanian and Croatian short form of Alexandra, itself the feminine form of Alexander, which derives from the Greek elements alexein, meaning to defend, and aner, meaning man; a Latvian form of the same name also exists. As a Burmese name, Sanda means moon, drawing on a separate linguistic tradition entirely. Related forms include Sandra, Sanda's closest Western cognate, as well as Aleksandra and Alexandra.
