Scotty

Scotty is an English diminutive of Scott, which derives from an Old English and Medieval Latin term referring to a person from Scotland or, more broadly, a Gaelic speaker. The underlying word traces back to the Latin Scotti, used by Roman writers to denote the Gaelic peoples of Ireland and later Scotland. Scotty gained independent use as a given name, particularly in the United States, during the twentieth century, and is widely recognized through the character Montgomery Scott in the science fiction franchise Star Trek. Scott and Scottie are the closest related forms.
