Shayla is an English name that emerged in the twentieth century, most likely as an elaborated or feminized form of Shay, which itself derives from the Irish name Séaghdha, traditionally interpreted as meaning goodly or fortunate. It may also have been influenced by the name Sheila, an Anglicization of the Irish Síle, a form of Cecilia.
