Sheila

Sheila is an Anglicized form of the Irish name Síle, itself an Irish adaptation of the Latin Cecilia, derived from the Roman family name Caecilius, which is thought to stem from the Latin caecus, meaning blind. The name was brought to Ireland through early Christian influence, as Saint Cecilia was a widely venerated Roman martyr. Sheila became especially common in Ireland and among Irish diaspora communities, and in Australian English it developed as a general slang term for a woman. Síle and Cecilia are the most closely related forms.
