Soof is a Dutch and Flemish pet form of Sofie or Sophie, itself derived from the ancient Greek name Sophia, meaning wisdom. The Greek root sophos carried broad cultural weight in antiquity, influencing philosophy, theology, and the arts across the Mediterranean world. Soof functions as an informal, affectionate diminutive used in the Low Countries, sitting alongside other contracted forms such as Fien and Fie for similar names.
