Styliani is a Greek feminine given name derived from the Greek word stylos, meaning pillar or column. It honors Saint Stylianos of Paphlagonia, a fifth-century Byzantine ascetic venerated in the Orthodox Church as a protector of children, which made the name especially popular in Greece and among Greek Orthodox communities. The masculine form Stylianos is the direct counterpart, and the name also appears in shortened everyday forms such as Stella or Stylla within Greek-speaking families.
