Till

Till is a German short form of Dietrich, a Germanic name composed of the elements theud, meaning people or nation, and ric, meaning power or ruler. The name became widely known through the legendary folk trickster Till Eulenspiegel, a mischievous peasant figure from Low German tradition whose tales were first printed in the early sixteenth century and later inspired works by composers including Richard Strauss. Tilo and Til are closely related variants, while Dietrich itself remains the full form from which this diminutive descends.
