Tracy

Tracy is an English given name derived from a French surname, which itself traces back to the Norman place name Tracé in Normandy, ultimately from the Latin personal name Thracius, meaning of Thrace, the ancient region in southeastern Europe. The surname was brought to England after the Norman Conquest of 1066, carried by notable Norman families, and gradually made the transition to use as a given name. It was used for both males and females through the mid-twentieth century but became predominantly feminine in English-speaking countries from the 1960s onward. Variant spellings include Tracey and Traci.
