Valerie

Valerie is the English and German form of the Latin name Valeria, the feminine of Valerius, a Roman family name derived from the Latin root valere, meaning to be strong or to be healthy. The Valerii were a prominent patrician clan in ancient Rome, and Saint Valeria of Milan, a early Christian martyr, helped spread the name through medieval Europe. The French form Valérie became widely fashionable in the twentieth century, particularly in France and French-speaking countries.
