Valeriia is the Russian and Ukrainian feminine form of the Latin name Valerius, itself derived from the Roman family name rooted in the Latin word valere, meaning to be strong or to be healthy. The name was borne by several early Christian saints, which helped spread its use throughout the medieval Latin world. Valeria is the more widely used Western European form of the name, while Valérie is its French cognate and Waleria its Polish equivalent.
