Vanesa

Vanesa is a form of Vanessa used in Spanish, Czech, Slovak, Slovene, and Croatian. Vanessa itself was coined by the Anglo-Irish writer Jonathan Swift in the early eighteenth century as a pet name for his friend Esther Vanhomrigh, blending the first syllable of her surname with Essa, a nickname for Esther. The name gained wider literary fame through Alexander Pope's 1713 poem Cloris and Vanessa and has since spread across many European languages.
