Vilhelmiina

Vilhelmiina is a Finnish feminine form of the Germanic name Wilhelm, composed of the elements wil (will, desire) and helm (helmet, protection), thus carrying the sense of "resolute protector" or "determined guardian." The name entered Finnish use as an adaptation of Wilhelmina, the Latinate feminine form that spread across Europe largely through Dutch and German influence. It was borne by several European noblewomen and became a popular given name in Finland during the nineteenth century alongside other Scandinavian and Germanic borrowings.
