Vincent

Vincent derives from the Latin name Vincentius, built on the present participle of vincere, meaning to conquer or to prevail. The name spread throughout medieval Europe largely through the veneration of Saint Vincent of Saragossa, a third-century Spanish martyr who became one of the most widely honored saints in the Western church. The Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh brought the name renewed international recognition in modern times. Related forms include Vincenzo in Italian, Vicente in Spanish and Portuguese, Vinko in South Slavic languages, and the feminine variant Vincenza.
