Walther

Walther is a German form of the Germanic name composed of the elements wald, meaning "rule," and heri, meaning "army." The name was widely used in medieval Germany and is borne by Walther von der Vogelweide, the celebrated Middle High German lyric poet of the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. It corresponds to the English Walter, the French Gautier, and the Italian Gualtiero, all descending from the same Old Germanic roots.
