Yannick

Yannick is a Breton and French diminutive form of Yann, itself the Breton equivalent of John, which derives from the Hebrew Yohanan meaning God is gracious. The name emerged from the strongly Celtic linguistic tradition of Brittany in northwestern France, where Yann long served as the regional counterpart to the French Jean. It gained broader popularity across the French-speaking world during the twentieth century, carried in part by notable bearers such as French conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Closely related forms include Yann, Yannic, and the wider family of John derivatives such as Jean, Ian, and Giovanni.
