Zaharina

Zaharina is a Bulgarian and Macedonian feminine form of Zacharias, the Latin and Greek rendering of the Hebrew name Zechariah, meaning God has remembered, formed from the elements zakhar, to remember, and Yah, a short form of the divine name. The name was borne by a minor Hebrew prophet whose writings are preserved in the Old Testament book of Zechariah, giving it a long tradition of use in Christian communities throughout the Slavic world. Masculine counterparts in the same tradition include Zahari in Bulgarian and Zaharija in South Slavic languages, while Western European equivalents include Zachary and Zacharias.
