Zaharina is a Bulgarian and Macedonian feminine form derived from the Hebrew name Zechariah, meaning "God has remembered," composed of the elements zakhar, meaning "to remember," and yah, a shortened form of the divine name Yahweh. The name entered Slavic usage through the Greek form Zacharias, which spread across Europe alongside the veneration of the biblical prophet Zechariah and the New Testament figure Zechariah, father of John the Baptist.
