Adelita is a Spanish diminutive of Adela, which derives from the Germanic element adal, meaning noble. The name gained widespread cultural resonance in Mexico through the corrido La Adelita, a popular ballad from the Mexican Revolution era that celebrated a brave soldadera, or female soldier, who followed the troops into battle.
