Andrea

Andrea derives from the Greek name Andreas, itself built on the element aner (genitive andros), meaning man or male. As a masculine name it has long been used in Italy, where Saint Andrew the Apostle was venerated under his Latin form Andreas, and Andrea del Sarto and Andrea Mantegna stand among its celebrated historical bearers. In English and much of northern and western Europe the name shifted to feminine use during the twentieth century, likely as a feminine counterpart to Andrew or Andreas.
