Andy

Andy is an English short form of Andrew, which derives from the Greek name Andreas, built on the root aner (genitive andros) meaning man or male. The name became widely used in the English-speaking world as an independent given name from the twentieth century onward, partly through cultural figures such as American artist Andy Warhol and the fictional character Andy in various popular works. It is used for both males and females, though predominantly male, and corresponds to cognates such as André in French and Portuguese, Andreas in German and Scandinavian languages, and Andrea in Italian.
