Bobbie

Bobbie is an English diminutive of Robert, which derives from the Old High German name Hrodebert, composed of the elements hrod (fame) and beraht (bright), meaning roughly bright fame. It developed as a pet form of Bob, itself a medieval rhyming nickname for Robert, and has been used as both a masculine and feminine given name in English-speaking countries. As a feminine name it gained particular popularity in the early twentieth century, often given as an independent name or as a variant spelling of Bobby.
