Robert

Robert is a classic Germanic given name composed of the elements hrod, meaning fame or glory, and beraht, meaning bright, yielding the sense of one who is bright with fame. It was introduced to England by the Normans and became enormously popular throughout medieval Europe, borne by kings of Scotland, France, and Sicily as well as the legendary outlaw folk hero Robin Hood, whose name derives from a diminutive form.
