Robbert

Robbert is a Dutch form of Robert, a name of Old High German origin composed of the elements hrod, meaning fame or glory, and beraht, meaning bright or shining, giving the overall sense of bright fame. The name was brought to widespread use across Europe by the Normans following the eleventh century, carried by figures such as Robert I of Normandy and his son William the Conqueror. Robbert is the standard spelling used in the Netherlands and Flanders, sitting alongside the more internationally common Robert, as well as cognates such as Rupert and Roberto.
