Chanah

Chanah is the Hebrew form of a name built on the root h-n-n, conveying grace, favor, or mercy, and is the original biblical spelling of what English speakers know as Hannah. It is borne most famously in the Hebrew Bible by the mother of the prophet Samuel, whose fervent prayer for a child became a model of personal devotion in Jewish tradition. The name spread widely through both Jewish communities and, via the Greek and Latin forms Anna and Hanna, across Christian Europe and beyond.
