Chanah

Chanah is the original Hebrew form of a name built on the root ḥ-n-n, conveying the sense of grace, favour, or divine benevolence. It was borne by a prominent biblical figure, the mother of the prophet Samuel, whose story of fervent prayer and answered petition made the name deeply significant in Jewish tradition. The name spread widely through religious transmission and gave rise to the Latinised form Hannah, as well as Anna and Anne across European languages.
