Cilla is a Scandinavian and Dutch short form of Priscilla, itself a Latin diminutive of the Roman family name Prisca, derived from the Latin word priscus meaning ancient or venerable. The name gained particular popularity in Sweden and the Netherlands as an independent given name rather than merely a nickname. It is widely associated with the British entertainer Cilla Black, born Priscilla White, who helped bring the name to broader public attention in the 1960s.
