Denise

Denise is the French feminine form of Denis, which derives from the Latin Dionysius and ultimately from the Greek name Dionysios, meaning "of Dionysus," the god of wine and festivity whose name is of uncertain but possibly Phrygian origin. The name spread widely through medieval Europe owing to the popularity of Saint Denis, the third-century martyr and patron saint of France. Denise became a common given name in English-speaking countries during the twentieth century, particularly in the mid-century decades.
