Dennis

Dennis is an English, German, and Dutch given name derived from the medieval Latin Dionysius, itself from the Greek Dionysios, meaning "of Dionysus," the Greek god of wine and revelry whose name may ultimately derive from Dios, meaning "of Zeus," combined with Nysa, the mythical mountain where the god was raised. The name was borne by Saint Denis, the third-century bishop of Paris who became the patron saint of France, giving the name widespread popularity throughout medieval Europe.
