Diederik

Diederik is a Dutch form of the Germanic name Theodoric, composed of the elements theud, meaning people or nation, and ric, meaning power or ruler, giving the overall sense of ruler of the people. The name was borne by several Frankish and medieval nobles, including counts of Holland, reinforcing its aristocratic pedigree in the Low Countries. It shares its roots with the English Derrick and Derek, the German Dietrich, and the Latinized Theodoric.
