Elizabet

Elizabet is a Bulgarian and Hungarian form of Elizabeth, itself derived from the Hebrew name Elisheba, composed of the elements el, meaning God, and sheva, meaning oath or perhaps seven. The name gained wide currency across Europe largely through the veneration of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, the thirteenth-century noblewoman renowned for her charitable works. Closely related forms include Elisabeth, Elizabeta, Erzsébet, and the English Elizabeth.
