Goffredo is the Italian form of a Germanic name composed of the elements god, meaning "god" or possibly "good," and fred, meaning "peace," giving the overall sense of "divine peace" or "peaceful god." The name reached Italy through medieval Latin Godefridus, which itself derived from Old French and Frankish transmission of the Germanic original.
