Iwan

Iwan is the Welsh and Polish form of John, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan, meaning God is gracious. In Wales it has been a common form of the name since the medieval period, carrying the same long tradition as the Latin Iohannes across Christian Europe. The Polish form shares the same Hebrew root through Byzantine Greek Ioannes and its Slavic adaptations. Closely related forms include Ioan, Jan, Ivan, and Giovanni.
